black hole

they say if you fall into a black hole, you are ripped apart

"spaghettification" is the term, because you get stretched long like spaghetti (or perhaps more like being pulled apart on the rack)

the gravitational forces at your head and feet are different by just a small percentage, but they are so intense that this small percentage difference rips you apart.

tidal forces. the same mechanism by which the moon's pull on the oceans creates tides.

the distant and near water are pulled apart relative to the center of the earth (lifted up from the ground), because the moon's pull differs by just a fraction...

HOWEVER

tidal forces will only pull you apart before you reach the event horizon (point of no-return, nothing can leave no information transmitted, nothing inside can ever come out, time has tilted on its side so that what was once "inwards (place)" has become "future (time)"... to travel out would be like traveling in time...) if you fall into a SMALL black hole

with a large enough mass, the event horizon is so large, you can fall right into the event horizon without any ill effects.

what happens inside as you get closer and closer to the singularity... physics only poorly describes... it's yet to be discovered...
